Active Development in Aid (ADA)
Expanding access to quality education and early learning opportunities to build a future grounded in knowledge, dignity, and child protection.
ADA’s education and child development programming is designed to address the long-standing barriers to learning in fragile and underserved contexts. Conflict, displacement, poverty, and harmful social norms continue to hinder access to education for children, particularly girls and orphans. ADA works to close this gap by investing in inclusive, safe, and quality learning environments that promote lifelong development and self-reliance.
Interventions include school rehabilitation, provision of learning materials, teacher incentives, and school feeding programs to increase enrolment and retention. ADA places strong emphasis on Early Childhood Development (ECD), integrating child protection, psychosocial support, and parental engagement into learning environments. Community structures are mobilized to support school management and local ownership of education initiatives.
Child development is viewed holistically—beyond academics—to encompass emotional, cognitive, and social well-being. ADA ensures that schools function as protective spaces and are accessible to children with disabilities, girls, and displaced children. Through integration with WASH, nutrition, and protection sectors, the organization strengthens the enabling environment for every child to thrive, learn, and contribute meaningfully to society.
ADA’s education and child development strategy consists of six core components that address the multiple dimensions of learning and childhood well-being. These areas ensure that children not only access education but also remain in safe, nurturing, and empowering learning environments. All interventions are guided by principles of inclusion, protection, and sustainability.
Renovating and equipping classrooms to provide safe and functional learning spaces.
Supplying textbooks, stationery, and teaching aids to support quality education.
Promoting holistic early learning through age-appropriate teaching and play.
Enhancing enrolment and learning through targeted school meals and nutrition.
Supporting teacher retention and capacity through stipends and professional growth.
Promoting gender equity and disability inclusion in all education interventions.
